Il mondo ha bisogno di circa 13 Tera Wattora di energia ogni anno, una cifra che salirŕ a circa 20 Tera Watt entro il 2020. La quantitŕ di luce solare ricevuta dal pianeta terra in ogni secondo č circa 120000 Tera Wattora, ovvero 9000 volte quello che serve all’umanitŕ intera. Nel caso dell’energia solare la questione č concettualmente semplice: catturando circa l’1 percento dell’energia totale ricevuta dalla terra il mondo potrebbe essere completamente indipendente da qualsiasi altra fonte energetica.
Da dove iniziare? I deserti sono le parti del mondo dove c’č piů sole in assoluto. Con la tecnologia esistente sarebbe possibile trasportare letteralmente l’energia elettrica generata da enormi centrali e sotto centrali solari alle linee elettriche internazionali. Notoriamente si associa il solare ai pannelli solari fotovoltaici. In realtŕ per questo ambizioso progetto la tecnologia idonea č quella termodinamica a concentrazione, nota come CSP (Concentrated Solar Power).
Per soddisfare tutti i bisogni di energia elettrica per l’Europa, in linea di principio, sarebbe necessario soltanto lo 0,3 percento della luce ricevuto dal deserto del Sahara e dai deserti Medio Orientali: un’area piů piccola del Galles. Partendo da questo presupposto un gruppo di industriali tedeschi nel mese di luglio 2009 hanno lanciato quello che potrebbe essere il piů grande progetto solare del mondo: un consorzio a lungo termine per il finanziamento e la realizzazione di un progetto colossale: il consorzio č guidato da Munich Re, e sono presenti colossi come E. ON, Siemens e Deutsche Bank.
Il progetto, denominato DESERTEC, ha l’ambizione di fornire il 15 percento del fabbisogno europeo di energia elettrica.
Sarŕ un progetto incredibile e non facile. Il costo stimato č di circa 555 miliardi di Euro e potrebbe rappresentare solo un trance del totale. Ma considerando che l’Agenzia Internazionale per l’Energia calcola in 45 mila miliardi di dollari per i prossimi 40 anni per nuovi sistemi energetici, il progetto potrebbe non essere in fondo cosě costoso. Il vero problema portare l’energia verso l’Europa. Il piano ha l’appoggio della Commissione Europea il cui Istituto per l’Energia prevede una rete di installazioni di centrali CSP collegati con un sistema di trasmissioni di nuova concezione ad alta tensione. Questo sistema di trasmissione dell’energia potrebbe anche catturare l’energia della forza del vento da tutta l’Europa occidentale e il Nord Africa. La costruzione di tale sistema di trasmissione, formato da linee di terra e cavi sottomarini č tecnicamente impegnativo ma non di certo impossibile.
Uno studio indipendente effettuato nel 2006 ha calcolato che tutta l’energia necessaria per alimentare gli Stati Uniti sarebbe fornibile realizzando una copertura di 40 mila km quadrati (200 km x 200 km). Le centrali dovrebbero essere realizzate nelle aree maggiormente soleggiate come quelle del sud-ovest e l’energia indirizzata verso le aree piů fredde e nuvolose nord-orientali ed occidentali.
Tutto questo costerebbe agli Stati Uniti circa 4,5-6 mila miliardi dollari. Considerando un prezzo del petrolio di 100 dollari al barile e il numero di barili di petrolio importati al giorno nel 2006 il il "ritorno dell’investimento" solare sarebbe oscillerebbe tra i 9 e i 12 anni considerando nel calcolo i risparmi di carbone e gas.
Nel dicembre 2007, tre ricercatori hanno pubblicato un studio sulla rivista Scientific American nel quale sostengono che entro il 2050 molte aziende produrranno qualcosa come 3000 Giga Watt nel sud-ovest americano ed in piů una larga distribuzione di centrali del tipo DESERTEC saranno funzionanti. L’eccesso dell’energia prodotta nel periodo diurno potrebbe essere conservato sotto forma di aria compressa sotto forma di caverne sotterranee, che potrebbero poi essere utilizzate per i bisogni energetici notturni. Con una nuova griglia di distribuzione dell’energia sarebbe possibile fornire circa il 69 percento dell’energia degli Stati Uniti entro il 2050. Questa nuova griglia di distribuzione dell’energia, nota come Smart Grid e nominata "Green Power Express" č stata soggetto del piano di stimolo del presidente Obama nel febbraio del 2009.
Questo progetto internazionale avrebbe un successo completo se Stati Uniti e Cina sincronizzassero i loro interessi. Ma la storia suggerisce cautela: le nazioni ricche sicuramente esiteranno sostituire la loro dipendenza di petrolio proveniente da aree molto soleggiate con impianti solari provenienti dagli stessi paesi.

Lo considero un progetto estremamente interessante. Anche se puň suonare irrealistico, questo progetto (progettato da un nutrito gruppo di scienziati fondanti il Club of Rome) ha giŕ mosso i primi passi. Grandi finanziatori si sono giŕ mossi e colossi come la Siemens hanno giŕ dato il proprio appoggio per lo sviluppo concreto delle prime centrali (rif. Marocco).

Occhio alle unitŕ di misura!!
L’energia si misura in Joule (J) o Wattora (Wh), mentre il Watt (W) č una unitŕ di potenza.
Poi 200 km quadrati sono cosa ben diversa dal quadrato di 200 km di lato che servirebbe. Sono 40’000 km quadrati!
100 metri quadri sono un appartamento, un quadrato di lato 100 metri č un campo di calcio...
E resta il problema di come far resistere i moduli alle tempeste di sabbia, di come sorvegliare 800 km di perimetro e migliaia di chilometri di elettrodotto per evitare che con 100 euro di esplosivo il piů sprovveduto dei terroristi riesca a mettere in ginocchio un intero continente...

Correzioni effettuate.. grazie! Evidentemente c’č qualche "problema" pratico non propriamente semplice da risolvere. La sabbia e il vento č sicuramente un problema non di poco conto. Non si puň pensare di bagnare continuativamente il suolo come ho visto fare (in tv) nel campo di qualche centrale solare nord-americana e spagnola.. tanto meno immaginare ad una colata di cemento.

Anzitutto TWh č correttamente usato per valorizzare l’Energia salvo che T sta per Tera e non Terra: č, in particolare, il simbolo del multiplo base 10 esponente 12 normalmente utilizzato per risparmiare fatica nel citare grandezze di modulo elevato.
Non ho ben capito inoltre come un quadrato di lato 100 possa comportare aree diverse da 100x100=10.000.
Entrando nello specifico del post vorrei precisare:
1. che il progetto cui ci si riferisce rientra con ogni probabilitŕ sulla programmazione CEE per cui da tempo si parla di due big projects riguardanti due Smart Grids. Il primo, apparentemente in fase di piů avanzato sviluppo, č portato avanti da un consorzio di diversi pesi - di cui ovviamente l’Italia non fa parte - e si pone l’obbiettivo di trasformare parte dell’energia meccanica del vento presente nel Nord Europa(mare del nord) in energia elettrica. Il secondo piů futuribile e di cui l’Italia potrebbe speriamo entrare a far parte insieme alla Spagna ed altri, South Smart Grid, che si propone lo stesso obbiettivo trasformando perň energia elettromagnetica.
2. Da sempre sostengo e dico che non c’č settore come quello del verde e dell’energia dove si dica e si possa dire di tutto indipendentemente dalla validitŕ e veridicitŕ di quanto si propone.
E’ ovvio che la problematica energetica sia importantissima ed attualissima ma non č accettabile che si sfrutti l’ignoranza per avvantaggiarsi ai diversi livelli.
Due precisazioni dunque.
La prima non tanto sui valori che il post dichiara in relazione al potenziale solare (che vanno comunque confrontati esaminando piů fonti), quanto sull’affermazione del tutto inesatta che quest’energia sia bastevole dando per scontato tecnologie di immagazzinamento di incerta realizzabilitŕ e validitŕ.
Non c’č dubbio che il sole in un secondo possa annichilirci, sublimarci tanto č grande la sua Energia ma altrettanto vero č che ad oggi non si sia ancora capaci di sfruttarla convenientemente e che un grande ostacolo sia appunto quello che le tecnologie di accumulo ancora accusano.
Idrogeno, aria compressa, confinamenti...
La seconda riguarda il termine Smart Grid che anch’io ho qui utilizzato. Smart sta per intelligente e Grid per griglia.
In effetti le griglie attuali (reti di distribuzione-trasmissione dell’energia elettrica) non sono progettate e non possono dunque funzionare bene per accogliere e gestire su base internazionale nuove produzioni di EE di discreta grandezza. Intendiamoci: mi risulta vadano anzi vanno benissimo per l’attuale tipologia di distribuzione che prevede importanti produzioni centralizzate ma sembrano incapaci di gestirne altre decentrate se non di irrilevante importanza.
Se a ciň si aggiunge ogni doverosa considerazione in ordine alle problematiche sociale-politica-economica cui non č stato fatto cenno, l’informazione risulta certamente piů equilibrata e corretta.
Ribadisco valere il motto "informazione sě ma non infotainement", da cui l’invito che rivolgo a tutti me compreso: conoscere e riflettere in proprio per approfondire e poi parlare.
Se cosě facessimo ci saremmo anche noi nella North Smart Grid e di piů, saremmo ancora la sesta potenza industriale e non l’Italia in cui non c’č piů lavoro e poco anche per chi se lo merita.

A proposito di Smart Grid, ho letto un articolo poco tempo fa in cui l’Enel dichiaratamente vantava una sorta di primato a livello mondiale in termini di implementazione delle Smart Grid. Da quanto scrivi tu tendo a dedurre o che sia falso oppure che finora ci si assesti ancora su autoproduzioni irrisorie rispetto al modello di distribuzione di energia elettrica centrale-consumatore. @Sergio: hai qualche informazione in piů a riguardo? Cordialmente.

Hai ben scritto: modello di generazione-distribuzione "decentrato" tipologia "utente/produttore".
Credo che assieme ai progetti citati in ambito CEE ci sia proprio questo: un gruppo di lavoro che ha l’obbiettivo di individuare la migliore soluzione in termini di Smart Grid da utilizzare congiuntamente allo sviluppo della produzione di EE su base internazionale.
Che Enel, sia all’avanguardia come storicamente lo č l’Italia non c’č dubbio ma girano voci su situazioni paradossali - ma prevedibili - fonte di ridicolo: impianti decentrati di discrete dimensioni andati di punto in bianco in black out passando alla cessione in rete dell’energia prodotta con tecnologia fotovoltaica.
Puoi indagare direttamente la ragione tecnologica-costruttiva ciň; la competenza č in ambito elettrotecnica-elettronica.
Se peschi poco e ti interesssa, vedrň di farti avere della documentazione.
Che si sia attestati su autoproduzioni irrisorie da rinnovabili/verdi č ovvio e certo; per rendertene conto leggi, in argomento, i reports annuali sull’Energia Elettrica prodotta a livello Italia, CEE e Mondo.
Se poi ti appassiona guardare dove si possa andare o arrivare, interessarti cioč una previsione in argomento, ti posso girare un recente articolo del piů diffuso giornale tra le major e comunque tra tutti gli addetti al settore Energia.
Il grafico, riporta un ammontare equivalente di "tutto ciň che qui interessa" pari al 10% quale previsione per il 2035.
In particolare, i trends da qui a questa data prevedono un calo del’oil, una piccola crescita del gas ed un andamento sostanzialmente costante del carbone per un contributo di ciascuna di queste tre fonti pari a circa il 30% in quella data.
Il 10% č tutto il resto.
